It’s always important to make time for your own little side projects and to create works free from the constraints of a client brief, so this week we spent a bit of time in the studio experimenting and developing some new personal work. Having previously used this technique for a commission by Sony it was time to add our own twist to the technique.  A rather simple set up of mirrors along with some interesting flowers combine to create this series of visually complex images.

The creation of this type of image is a balancing act, with reflections that compound to become ever more complicated as they blossom out towards the edges, as well as the complicated structures of the flowers themselves – it’s very easy for the images to become too complicated and overwhelming. As a result time and care has to be taken to figure out the best lines of symmetry in order to highlight particular structures or build visual frames around points of focus.

These images also show off the power of the Phase One XF IQ3 100 digital back, the 100% crop below shows off both the quality of the colour rendition as well as the level of detail that the back is capable of resolving.
